His replacement, Tony O’Reilly of the Koobas, struggled to perform with the rest of the group on stage and former Warriors and yes play future King Crimson drummer Ian Wallace subbed for one gig on 5 November 1968. At the time, Anderson and Wakeman favoured a more fantastical and delicate approach while the rest preferred a heavier rock sound. With heavy commercial rock-radio airplay, the album reached number 8 in the UK and number 10 in the US charts, and was also certified platinum (1 million copies sold) by the RIAA.
